An early form of show jumping first was incorporated into the Olympic Games in 1900. Show jumping in its current format appeared in 1912 and has thrived ever since. Its recent popularity is due in part to its suitability as a spectator sport that is well adapted for viewing on television.
Classes are divided into ridden and in-hand sections and there are many different classes for different horses and ponies. For example, there are classes for Mountain and moorland pony breeds, show hunters, show hacks, equitation, and various show pony classes.
Most of these events are designed to display controlled actions between horse and rider at speed, and demonstrate many skills. A variety of classes for all ages and abilities, allowing riders to compete at the speed level at which they are most capable and comfortable.
